The Shining, Colorado

In Colorado, there is a hotel called The Overlook. In fact, Jack Torrance worked as a caretaker at that particular hotel. Perhaps one of the most impactful movies with a Louisiana setting is 12 Years a Slave. Solomon Northup, an African-American New Yorker who was kidnapped and sold into slavery in 1941, is the subject of the real-life account. In the Pelican State, he was forced to spend 12 years cultivating cash crops.

Remember the Titans, Virginia

Remember the Titans, which is set in 1971 in Alexandria, Virginia, tells the life story of Herman Boone, an African-American coach who is portrayed by Denzel Washington. The plot of the film centers on his quest to integrate the high school team he coaches with the other squads.

Other notable films set in Virginia include Richard Kelly's 2001 sci-fi psycho thriller Donnie Darko, Hidden Figures, and Pocahontas.

A star-studded ensemble, including Channing Tatum, Daniel Craig, Seth MacFarlane, and Katie Holmes, is featured in the comedy Logan Lucky. The Logan family is portrayed in the Steven Soderbergh-directed film as they plot to plunder the Charlotte Motor Speedway.

If you live in Nevada, you'll be happy to hear that scenes for the 2001 heist movie Ocean's Eleven were filmed nearby. Starring seasoned performers George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, Andy Garca, Bernie Mac, and Julia Roberts, it is a remake of the 1960 film of the same name. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, starring Clint Eastwood, is one of the greatest movies with New Mexico as its backdrop. The 1960 film is about three gunslingers who band up to get money and have numerous adventures along the way.

The Outlaw, a 1941 Howard Hughes western, the 2003 Ron Howard thriller The Missing, and the 2006 dark thriller/horror film The Hills Have Eyes are all set in New Mexico.

Footloose, Utah

Footloose, one of the finest musical dramas, tells the tale of a little Utah town where seemingly dancing is forbidden! The movie demonstrates how Kevin Bacon encourages the entire community to stand up after moving here from Chicago with his mother, aunt, and uncle.

Danny Boyle's 127 Hours, another excellent film set in Utah, stars James Franco as Aron Ralston, a character who became trapped in a crevice in Blue John Canyon. The canyoneer had to amputate his right arm in order to free himself after having his right arm stuck by a boulder.

Fargo, North Dakota

In North Dakota, a car salesman hires two crooks to abduct his wife so he may demand a ransom from his father-in-law. We're talking about the Peter Stormare and Steve Buscemi-led 1996 Coen Brothers blockbuster Fargo. Although a large portion of the movie is set in Minnesota, North Dakota would win because Fargo is a city there.

Despite the fact that there aren't many films set in North Dakota, there is one: Leprechaun, a slasher thriller starring Jennifer Aniston.

Badlands, South Dakota

Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek are featured in the historical murder drama Badlands. The Terrence Malick-directed film is based on the real-life murderers Charles Starkweather and Caril-Ann Fugate, who committed a string of homicides and acts of violence while in love.

Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest, which contains one or two sequences set in the Mt. Rushmore State, is another movie with a little amount of South Dakota.

Sleepless in Seattle, Washington

Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan feature in the lovely rom-com Sleepless in Seattle. Hanks portrays a widower who isn't over the loss of his wife and has an eight-year-old kid.
